Vehicle crash on Tavern Road leaves at least one injured

ALPINE, Calif. (March 1, 2022) – On Monday, a sheriff’s deputy was injured after a DUI accident on Tavern Road.

The incident happened around 7 a.m. at the Chevron gas station at 1145 Tavern Road.

Additionally, according to officials, they received a report of a possible DUI driver asleep at the wheel.

Eventually, officials arrived and confronted the 32-year-old driver, recognizing the drug paraphernalia from the sight of the vehicle.

Consequently, deputies asked the man to get out of the vehicle, but the driver sped backwards with the door open and collided with a fire truck.

As the driver was backing up, the open door collided with an assistant. After sustaining a minor abrasion to his nose and pain in his shoulder, emergency personnel transported the deputy to a nearby hospital.

Authorities eventually arrested the driver.

In the meantime, an active investigation is ongoing and officials will post further updates once available.

Driving under the influence is one of the most dangerous things you can do as a driver. If you find yourself unable to drive safely, you can always contact a Lyft or Uber instead.
