Amherst is a real estate private equity firm with multiple equity and debt strategies. Overall, Amherst currently has an AUM of $ 5.8 billion for its debt and equity strategies. Amherst Holdings’ real estate private equity business was formed in 2012 after several decades in the residential mortgage securities investment banking business. Amherst’s private equity business has grown from 34 employees in 2012 to approximately 1,000 today. Amherst continues to grow rapidly to capitalize on growing industry opportunities.

Within the Capital Management division, Debt Capital Markets manages the funding process on behalf of Amherst’s own balance sheet of $ 2 billion and over and for all of its businesses and funds. Commodities include secure warehouse finance, senior and mezzanine term finance, public and private securitizations, and seller finance. The team is looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual to play a key role in structuring and negotiating the execution and syndication of debt financing in the private and public markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the execution of transactions, including risk assessment and transaction negotiations to optimize pricing and financing structuring

  • Develop models to analyze returns on investment and flexibility to determine appropriate financing terms and clauses

  • Prepare presentation and marketing material including requests for proposals, lender due diligence, exit models and structuring goals for potential lenders, senior management and the Amherst Board of Directors

  • Facilitate structured financial transactions, including valuation, accounting, third party engagements and other transaction issues

  • Anticipate the needs of senior bankers before scheduled meetings with investors and prepare documents accordingly

  • Coordinate the work product with legal, tax, accounting and regulatory parties

  • Finalize client presentations and interact with investment partners and potential lenders

  • Participate in interactions with rating agencies, ensure compliance and report on covenants on ongoing securitizations and private debt financing

  • Liaise with Investor Services and FP&A to facilitate reporting processes, appropriate controls and cash flow forecasting

  • Collaborate with the team to generate new ideas and other initiatives

Qualifications:

  • College diploma required; MBA and / or CFA nice to have

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with a master’s degree or four (4) years of experience with a bachelor’s degree in structured finance or debt capital markets in an investment banking or credit hedge fund.

  • Interested candidates must have demonstrated their ability to:

    • Work in partnership with transaction teams and execute complex financial modeling (strong Excel skills)

    • Apply a thorough understanding of transaction structuring and real estate financing

    • Interpret and present the analysis thoughtfully

    • Deliver a high-quality, high-quality work product in a timely manner with attention to detail

    • Collaborate well with others and develop strong relationships

    • Manage ambiguity and navigate complex tasks comfortably with little guidance

    • Think commercially, strategically and creatively

    • Prioritize and manage multiple deadlines to deliver a quality product up to tight time constraints

    • Solution oriented when presenting problems

    • Research, understand and follow developing industry trends
