With the end of the MLB regular season, the San Francisco Giants, leaders of NL West, received a terrible blow to injury news on Tuesday. Veteran Brandon Belt broke his thumb and the team put him on the 10-day injured list.
With that latest injury designation, it looks like Belt will likely miss the rest of the year and potentially any playoff race San Francisco hosts.
Belt, like many of his other Giants teammates, has had a surge of power at the plate this season. The 11-year veteran has hit 29 home runs in 97 games, more than 10 home runs above his previous career mark.
The longtime giant added a slash line of .274 / .378 / .597 and 59 RBI to this home run output. Overall, it’s a blow to the San Francisco offense, which ranks second in the entire league with 237 home runs.
San Francisco is at the top of the league with 103 wins over the year and will likely win the National League seed, heading for a playoff series that will see them with +700 World Series chances on FanDuel. Sportsbook.
