The San Francisco Giants have been one of MLB’s biggest surprises so far this season. They lead the NL West at 37-21, a division expected to be dominated by the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021. And Evan Longoria was instrumental in that success.
Veteran leadership aside, Longoria is hitting .280 this season with 9 homers and 30 RBIs.
However, Longoria left Saturday’s game against the Chicago Cubs following a collision with teammate Brandon Crawford. While Crawford was able to stay in the match, Longoria had to pass the rest of the contest. However, the silver lining is that he was able to go out on his own.
According to manager Gabe Kapler, Longoria suffered a shoulder injury and should be reassessed before a final decision is made on the severity of the injury or whether a switch to IL is needed.
Losing Longoria for an extended period will be a blow to a Giants team that is rolling right now. San Francisco fans are hoping they can avoid the latter altogether and Longoria may be back on third base soon.
