Burgaw, NC (November 23, 2021) – At 10 p.m. on the night of Saturday, November 20, a hit-and-run bicycle accident occurred in Burgaw.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on the southbound lanes of US-117 around Pike Creek Road. An individual was traveling south by bicycle in the area when he was suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled without stopping.
Paramedics, firefighters and many other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. The victim, who has not yet been identified, was rushed to the intensive care unit of a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Police confirmed that a mirror had been ripped from the suspect’s hit-and-run vehicle. The vehicle is said to be a white Kia Soul which was last seen heading south towards the Rocky Point area.
The roadway was blocked near the intersection for a long time.
No further details were disclosed. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident is continuing.
