By Alex Lawson (September 24, 2021, 3:32 p.m. EDT) – The Biden administration on Friday announced an investigation into whether imported rare earth magnets pose a threat to U.S. national security, raising potential tariffs on Imports with a Cold War -The trade law of the era was revived under the Trump administration.

A notice to be published in the Federal Register on Monday revealed the investigation, seeking public comment on the US Department of Commerce’s investigation into neodymium-iron-boron, or NdFeB, magnets, which are used in wind turbines, electric vehicles and missile defense systems.
