(WGHP) – It didn’t take long for the Maxwells to start living the American dream. Well, in terms of generations, it’s not – Max Maxwell is a first-generation American. His family is from Jamaica.
Max himself took some time. He joined the army after graduating from West Forsyth High School. When he got out, he tried real estate. His timing for this was a bit off since it started around the time the Great Recession of 2008 hit.
“Being as young as I am, having never been through any kind of recession, I thought the real estate market was over,” said Max, who was in his twenties at the time.
He tried something else which didn’t work either.
“So here I am back at Winston 2015/16. I have to go back and live with my mum to get back together,” he said.
Max decided he wanted to try real estate one more time, but with no money he had challenges. He immersed himself in learning the industry, including how to do things without investing a lot of capital.
“I had to figure out how to get into real estate and learn it enough to be able to add value to people who had money,” he said. “We go out and find distressed properties. I’m sure you’ve seen them all over the city and state.
These are often dilapidated places. Sometimes it is a place that was left to someone in a will or simply abandoned. Max started finding them for flippers and learned enough from watching them to start flipping houses himself.
Eventually, he became a major player in the real estate world.
As he made YouTube and Tik-Tok podcasts and videos about what he was doing, he quickly found an audience and became a social media star who now makes big money from companies that want to take advantage of his audience.
“They always come to us. I don’t think we’ve ever approached sponsors. I think if you keep posting content… you’re going to show up on the right radar,” Max said.
Max insists that there is no secret to his success other than consistent hard work and one more thing:
“You can be whatever you want to be, be whoever you want to be, and I think it comes down to hard work and dedication to whatever it is,” Max said. “Be yourself and you will attract people who love you.”
